Clocks forward – step forward – moving forward..we are OBSESSED with a Forward direction…but what if that causes even more stress and confusion?You know what? If you are feeling ‘on edge‘ on like many of my clients, at a ‘tipping point‘, ‘all at sea’ , in a ‘pit of despair’ or even ‘between a rock and a hard place‘ then moving forward really is not an option is it?
No wonder then that so many of us feel ‘stuck‘.
In Hypnotherapy and Coaching sessions with my clients I never ignore the messages that their unconscious minds are bringing to the surface, metaphor work is a really useful way to help clients understand where they can take the best next steps for them….notice I did not say forward!
The symptoms of stress and anxiety are often very different in clients – no two clients present with exactly the same symptoms therefore no two sessions are ever the same; using metaphor work ensures that my client can work through their issues at their own speed without having to reach a specific outcome.
Often the work I do is not about ‘outcome’ or at least it never is about the ‘outcome’ that the client started with – there are amazing shifts happening within and between sessions, as once client said recently ” When I look back at my questionnaire, I can’t quite believe I used to worry about what I did…things have changed so much recently in such a short time….I am facing a whole new direction and know I can ‘take steps’ to be who I need to be”
If you are feeling stressed or anxious because you are feeling ‘stuck in a rut’, in a ‘pit of despair’ , ‘lost in a fog’ or ‘lacking direction’ perhaps you should be listening to your unconscious messages…the direction is not always forward.
