I have been teaching over 16 years and yet nothing prepared me for the positive impact that studying and then teaching would have.
Mindfulness is not something that you necessarily ‘do’ – it’s a way of being in the present – it certainly isn’t about sitting around passively staring in to candle light… if you’ve come here for that then my apologies – I am not the right teacher for you!
Over the years I have come to understand and appreciate that:
- Regular meditation increases grey matter in the regions involving learning and memory processes, emotional regulation and self- esteem.
- Regular meditation and mindfulness practice also increases activity in the left-frontal regions associated with lifting mood (Davidson 2004).
- Meditation boosts your immune system (Davidson et al 2003Tang et al 2007)and improved medical conditions including type II Diabetes, cardiovascular disease, asthma, premenstrual syndrome and chronic pain (Walsh and Shapiro 2006).
- Mindfulness in practice improves psychological conditions such as anxiety, insomnia, phobias and eating disorders (Walsh and Shapiro 2006).
I have seen long lasting changes for clients who embrace mindfulness practice into their lives:
When I teach, I show clients techniques which they can use daily to support the moving away from toxic thoughts, stressful states and limiting beliefs towards a calmer state of mind.
Much of the teaching is put together from a number of different sources;
Erkhart Tolle, Liz Hall and John Kabat Zinn have all influenced my research and planning – mostly though I refer to who I consider ‘the grandfather of hypnotherapy’ Milton Erickson. Here is the underpinning ‘ethos’ of my workshops, courses and programs:
7 Pillars of Mindfulness
- non judging,
- a beginners mind,
- non striving,
- acceptance, and
- letting go.
They are not independent of each other – each one influences the other in some way.
Working with me, you will develop a deeper connection to your inner wisdom and learn things about yourself that you can use to your full advantage. My clients report that their lives and relationships have improved as a direct result of attending my courses and programs on Mind Calm and Meditation Practice.
After a few stressful years, I felt lost and down which manifested in confidence and identity issues. However, after attending sessions with Julie I feel a lot more confident and it has opened my mind on how to see and view life through meditation and self- hypnosis. Julie is an excellent teacher and has guided me through the various meditation techniques. I can highly recommend Julie as she is passionate and highly qualified in her field and her method of teaching is truly inspirational. As a client I will be seeking her guidance well into the future.
I have always enjoyed guided meditation and Julie’s classes include a wonderfully relaxing meditation. The class also includes thought provoking sessions which help to put the stresses and strains we all have into perspective. I can’t recommend Julie Phillips highly enough she has certainly helped me face life in a much calmer positive way.
I can highly recommend Julie, her approach has helped me realise the important things in life. At a point in my life where I felt very lost and confused, Julie helped me to gain focus and insight. From my very first conversation with Julie, I felt supported. Thank you Julie, you are inspirational.
