What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a very pleasant state of mind, very similar to day dreaming – it is not always a ‘deep’ trance although there are different levels of hypnosis, it is not always necessary for someone to be in a very ‘deep state of trance’ in order to get the change they require. Hypnosis is really natural state of mind and is an important part of everyday life. Whenever our mind wanders, daydreams or is focused on something, such as reading a book, driving a familiar route, watching a film we are in a state of hypnosis. Brain scans on people who are in hypnosis state show that brain wave activity moves from a Beta state to an Alpha state, and sometimes a Theta state. This is not dissimilar to the pattern of brain activity during meditation.
If I am hypnotised will I know what is happening to me?
Do we give up control of our mind to someone else when we are reading a book or watching a film? In situations like this you are in a hypnotic trance because you are very absorbed in the activity you are doing – just like when you doze on your settee at home with the television on in the background, you may drift up and down in a relaxed state of mind but you are aware of sound from the TV even though you are not watching it.
Whatever or whomever hypnotises you; you always have the power to resist.
As the client, you will decide how comfortable you feel in relaxing into hypnosis, it is up to you how deeply you wish to go. A hypnotherapist is a guide or a catalyst, helping you on a journey, but the change can only be made by you.
How does hypnosis feel?
Hypnosis is a natural state of mind; people are often surprised that they hear every word and could get up and walk out of the room at any moment. Unless you enter a deeper state, you may not seem any different, just very relaxed. It’s a bit like when you drift off to sleep at night, that stage when you are not quite awake and not quite asleep, you may feel a sense of weightlessness or you may feel heaviness as all your muscles relax. Everyone experiences it differently and my clients really enjoy how relaxing it can be.

You will be asked to complete and return a questionnaire prior to your first session. We will work together towards your desired change and review how you respond to different therapeutic techniques. During the session you will experience hypnotherapy and trance work, I will also teach you strategies and tools to use after you leave the therapy room in some cases It may be appropriate to teach you self-hypnosis. You may be given techniques or visualisations to practise in readiness for a follow up session; sometimes I ask clients to complete small tasks involving mindfulness techniques. Clients will receive a copy of my relaxation MP3 and supporting worksheets if applicable to your therapy sessions.
Will I remember the session?
Another misconception is that you won’t be able to remember anything that went on in the session. The truth is that you will be able to remember most of it.
Any portions not remembered, will be where your mind has drifted off to some distant thought or memory.
How many sessions will I need?
Clients book therapeutic coaching sessions as a package. Following this, clients may choose ‘top up’ sessions or additional sessions to learn specific strategies such as improving confidence with public speaking or dealing with work related issues such as success in interviews or observations.
Sessions must be paid for in advance. Clients can pay via Bank Transfer. An invoice is raised listing the sessions purchased. In some cases a ‘split payment’ may be agreed. Please ask at the time of booking. Please see Terms and Conditions.
How do I pay for sessions?
Sessions can be paid for by bank transfer, card payments on a secure system (please bring your mobile phone to ensure you can pay via my wifi connection) or cash. I regret I am unable to accept cheques.

What happens if I am unable to come to a session?
Sometimes life gets in the way and this can affect your attendance, please notify me as soon as possible. Notification within 48 hours of your appointment will mean that you will receive a pro rata refund of 95%. This is due to additional costs already applied by my banking system and fees for taking payment. Refunds within 24 hours are at the discretion of Julie Phillips Ltd.
Can you work for employees in company?

Is There A Reason I Shouldn’t Have Hypnotherapy or Therapeutic Coaching ?
If you have been diagnosed with clinical depression, schizophrenia or epilepsy then you should speak to your doctor prior to undertaking therapeutic coaching. If you are seeking help for a serious alcohol addiction you will also need to speak to your GP before I can work with you. Therapeutic Coaching is not a replacement for medical advice.
